Our UMass Boston Love Story

Bob (Robert A. Desharnais '76) and I met in what was then the College II cafeteria at UMass Boston in 1975. Our first date was playing racquetball at the College I courts, followed by a drive to the North End for pizza.

UMass Boston was a big part of our relationship for the first six months, with so much time spent holding hands in the cafeteria during lunch and between classes. Even after Bob graduated in 1976, moving to Rhode Island for graduate school, he returned on weekends, and we studied at the UMass Boston library every Sunday until I graduated in 1978.

Bob is now Professor of Biology at California State University, Los Angeles, a school with a mission similar to that of UMass Boston. I am a freelance writer and editor/publisher. We celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary in August of 2014.

There is no "us" without UMass Boston, so UMass Boston holds a special place in our hearts, beyond the wonderful education we received there. Thank you, UMass Boston! Ours is truly an enduring UMass Boston love story!
