Coming out of high school in 1985, I was recruited to play football at Northeastern University. I was immature and not a very good student at Northeastern and ended up leaving midway through my first semester. I entered UMass Boston in January (1986) under the special student program that was in place at that time. My goal was to take some classes and reapply somewhere else.
Attending UMass Boston was one of the best decisions I ever made. I graduated in 1990, and eventually went on to earn a master’s degree from another institution. UMass Boston offered me with the opportunity to play four years of football, where long-lasting relationships were forged with players, coaches, and fellow students. I was also fortunate to have met my wife of 22 years, Joanne, Class of 1990, at UMass Boston.
