The University of Massachusetts Boston at 50

50 Years of Excellence. A Lifetime of Opportunity.

On June 18, 1964, Gov. Endicott Peabody signed a bill establishing the University of Massachusetts Boston, the third campus in the UMass system. Since then, metropolitan Boston’s public university has grown to more than 16,000 students in 11 colleges and graduate schools. We invite you to explore just some of the milestones in our timeline. We also want you to submit your memories and photos, see what others have shared in the My Story section, and learn about upcoming events. You can also buy our commemorative book and donate—supporting our efforts in education and innovative research now and in the future.
